CrimProf Bruce Jacob Discusses Bigamy

JacobFrom sptimes.com: Stetson University College of Law CrimProf Bruce Jacob discusses bigamy with regards to Rev. Ledell Adrice Carr, who had recently married a woman in 2007. It was later discovered in fact that he hadn't divorced his first wife of 32 years, and in the decades since, court records show he had asked three other women for their hand in marriage.

Bigamy isn't uncommon, said Bruce Jacob, a professor of criminal law at Stetson University College of Law."Sometimes, it's a kind of a technical thing when a person might think they have a valid divorce," Jacob said.

But, he added, "There are people out there that deliberately marry more than one woman and shuttle back and forth, or they marry one and leave her and marry again, without bothering to get a divorce."

I just found out last week my husband of 26 years married another women two years ago. We have been separated because of his business and he rarely comes home, but has always supported the mortgage, bills and car and credit cards. He resides with her in Florida and I have lived in the family home for 10 years. Our children are grown. He calls once or twice a week to check on me and I call to ask for money or help with other things. I want to divorce him now, what are my chances of getting what is due me? The new live in lady, has quite of bit of money and property. I do not beleive anyone knows this information expect myself, and 3 people. I found the marriage licence original in the county files.
