AZ State Police to Enforce Federal Immigration Laws on Criminal Trespassing Theory
Republican AZ Sen. Barbara Leff has proposed legislation that would allow the police to stop, question, and arrest or deport those who cross the border illegally, based on the theory of criminal trespassing. In other words, illegal immigrants' mere presence in Arizona would constitute a state crime, thereby allowing the state to enforce federal immigration laws that criminalize illegal immigrants' presence "on any public or private land.''
