"Corrupt" State Aid Accusations Against the European Commission

Posted by D. Daniel Sokol

Super-discount carrier Ryanair accused "the European Commission of 'corrupt' application of EU state aid rules by continuously turning a blind eye to illegal subsidies", BNA reports.  I have lots of sympathy for Ryanair on principal, as these government moves distort the competitive process.  We are likely to see more state aid given the ongoing financial crisis.  Note that Sarkozy this past week called for looser state aid rules.
