Posted by D. Daniel Sokol

There will be a very interesting practitioner conference on Standard Setting and Patent Pools on October 2-3, 2008 at the Arlington Hilton hosted by Law Seminars International.

According to the brochure, topics covered include:

  • Connections and disconnections between how patent pools and standards bodies are supposed to work and how they actually work
  • Current policy and enforcement challenges in standard setting and patent pools
  • Antitrust issues with the European Union antitrust enforcement agenda
  • Determining reasonable royalties and negotiations
  • Licensing obligations and application of these rules to non-practicing entities
  • Patent pool formation and management
  • The Department of Justice's view on the intersection of IP and antitrust
