Employee Free Choice Act Compromise In The Works??
On July 16, 2009, Steven Greenhouse of the New York Times reported that a compromise on the Employee Free Choice Act is in the works, here. As I predicated, the card check provision of the Bill is being eliminated and replaced with an expedited election process. The other two portions of the Bill-mandatory interest arbitration where a first contract cannot be reached after a specified period of time and increased employer penalties for unfair labor practices remains unaltered.
Stayed tunned. I expect EFCA to come to a floor vote before the summer recess.

I am pessimistic about the prospects for passing the EFCA this year, but I give Harkin credit for trying to find a compromise that would still make it significantly easier for workers to form unions.
