Bibical Law School Named Judge Paul Pressler School of Law To Open In Louisiana
The ABA Journal Law News Blog, available here, is reporting that Louisiana College, a Baptist institution in Pineville founded in 1906 is planning to open a law school in 2009 with 40 students which will emphasize Christian teaching and values. As the article states:
Joe Aguillard, the college president, says the new law school, which is to open in 2009 with perhaps 40 students, will “unashamedly embrace” the nation’s “biblical roots” while at the same time educating graduates to practice law in Louisiana or nationwide, reports the Advocate, a Baton Rouge, La., newspaper. “We teach our students to have a passion to change the world in the name of Christ,” he tells the newspaper.
The school's press release is available here. That press release states that "the goal of the Judge Paul Pressler School of Law will be to train and equip young men and women to view the practice of law through a biblical worldview."
I am not sure if the this school will teach traditional subjects and whether they will be seeking ABA accredition. Stayed tuned.

Interesting piece of news. The popular notion is that religion and law are better separated, that church and state are as compatible as soda and ice cream.:) I'll be standing by to see how this lawfully religious experiment turns out.

There are already several similar law schools. Trinity Law School in Santa Ana California is the Evangelical Free Church Christian Law School. Liberty Law School and Regent Law School are both in Virginia and tied to the schools of famous television preachers.
These schools teach the regular legal curriculum from a Christian world view in much the same way one might get the law from an economist's world view at Chicago, or from a Marxist world view from a school dominated by Critical Legal studies people. They also add core courses and electives that discuss the historic and philosophical relationship between human law and faith. I cannot speak for the others, but at Trinity students learn about all the secular theories and views of the law as well as the variety of takes Christians have had on the law. Trinity emphasizes the classic Plato/Cicero/Augustine/John of Salisbury/Turretin thread of Natural Law thought, but discusses other views as well.

After having viewed the web site for the college I am very impressed. LC's web site has eloquent statements about truth, justice, freedom of conscience, and separation of church and state. They expressly reject racism and say they believe in helping the oppressed. Seeing their philosophy, and the great placement record the college has, I suspect LC will have an awesome Christian law school. I wish them every success
